GOVERNING BODY of St Michael and All Angels Catholic Primary School

WHAT IS IT?

All schools in England have a Governing Body which is responsible for overseeing many of the strategic decisions of the school. A key role is to act as a ‘critical friend’: to support, to challenge, to ask questions, ultimately to represent the school community. School governors are volunteers.

The Governing Body works in close partnership with the Headteacher, staff, Diocese and the Local Authority. Whilst the Headteacher is, of course, responsible for the day to day running of the school, the Governors are involved with such things as staffing, curriculum, school buildings and finance. It ensures the school functions well and maintains the proper range of academic and social objectives.Governors also help to make big decisions about the school’s long-term goals. They support headteachers, but also ask questions and make sure the headteacher is taking the school in the right direction.

We have a team of dedicated Governors. They meet regularly and attend all necessary training to ensure the children at St Michael & All Angels are provided with the best possible education and experiences.

The governing body now consists of:-

• Seven Foundation Governors

• One Elected Staff Governor

• One appointed Local Authority Governor

• Two Elected Parent Governors

• The Headteacher

The chair and vice-chair are elected at the first meeting of the academic year. The standard term of office for a governor is four years.

The Chair of Governors is Rev. Patrick Regan, who can be contacted via the school office, Parish Church or through the Clerk to Governing Body via email at: schooloffice@stmichael-allangels.wirral.sch.uk Please mark all emails - For the attention of the CLERK to the Governing Body.
